Our Responsibilities
The Securities Commission is the regulatory authority for the securities and mutual funds industries in Barbados, as charged by virtue of the Securities Act Cap 318A and its accompanying regulations and the Mutual Funds Act Cap 320B and the Mutual Funds Regulations 2002.
History Role and Powers of The Securities Commission
The Securities Commission (Barbados) is a statutory body established by the Securities Act Cap 318A. Prior to the statute’s enactment, the Securities Exchange of Barbados was responsible for the regulation of the securities market, including itself, as a Self-Regulatory Organisation. The coming into operation of The Securities Act Cap 318A on August 2nd 2001 required that the Securities Exchange of Barbados be re-incorporated as the Barbados Stock Exchange Inc. and all regulatory responsibility was transferred from the Barbados Stock Exchange to The Securities Commission. Although the enabling legislation for its establishment was enacted in 2001 the Commission did not become fully operational until January 2nd 2003. ...
